A midwife is a healthcare provider that provides care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. In Europe, midwives having been providing care for pregnant women for centuries. Midwife comes from an old English phrase meaning “with woman”.

I hate to break it to Americans, but women have been delivering women’s babies for centuries. This “hippie” movement might actually be on to something with their holistic approach to pregnancy as a condition rather than a dis-ease.
